Case Study: Replacement of ROSLA Building with New Build Art Block at Heathside School 

Project Overview 

Heathside School in Weybridge required the replacement of its outdated ROSLA (Raising of School Leaving Age) building, which had housed two art classrooms and associated storage. The project involved the full demolition of the existing block and the design and construction of a new modular facility tailored to meet the modern needs of the school’s Art Department.

Our Role / Services Provided 

We provided end-to-end consultancy services and provided the school with a turnkey solution that included: 

  • Initial project scoping and feasibility review 
  • Design development and stakeholder engagement 
  • Procurement and management of a modular construction contractor 
  • Application of UCS (Urgent Capital Support) funding alongside client 
  • Contract award  
  • Coordination of demolition strategy for the ROSLA building and delivery of new classrooms and ancillary spaces 
  • On-site project management and quality control 
  • Health & safety and regulatory compliance monitoring 
  • Full contract administration through to practical completion 
  • Completion of Snagging and review of O&Ms 


Scope of Works Completed
 

  • Safe demolition and removal of the existing ROSLA building 
  • Design and installation of a new modular classroom block 
  • Provision of two purpose-built art classrooms and dedicated art office, store room, toilet, and plant room 
  • Integration of modern M&E services to suit specialist art teaching needs 
  • Delivery of internal fit-out with specialist art cupboards, trays, sinks and areas for sewing machines etc. All compliant to DfE educational standards. 

Results & Outcomes 

  • Project delivered on budget and within programme timeframe (June–October 2024) 
  • Modern, fit-for-purpose art teaching facility provided for staff and students 
  • Improved energy efficiency and accessibility  
  • Excellent feedback from school leadership on both process and outcome
